  Thallus plane, continuous to rimose-areolate or dispersed-verruculose, yellowish white to yellowish grey, or whitish grey to slightly greenish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia immersed when immature, becoming sessile, 0.6–1.6 mm diam.; disc pale to dark red-brown or wax-coloured to dark grey-brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin, entire, ±verrucose. Cortex hyaline, inspersed with small crystals, 10–25 µm thick laterally and 10–35 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH. Epihymenium reddish brown, K–, with crystals soluble in KOH (pulicaris-type), c. 10–15 µm thick. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and not or slightly thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 10.0–15.0 × 5.0–8.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C+ orange, Pd+ red; containing atranorin (major), isoarthothelin (major), pannarin (major), thiophanic acid (submajor), arthothelin (submajor), chloroatranorin (minor), 7-chloronorlichexanthone (minor), 2,4-dichloronorlichexanthone (minor), 2,7-dichloronorlichexanthone (minor), 4,5-dichloronor-lichexanthone (minor) and 5,7-dichloronorlichexanthone (minor).
     
  An endemic, saxicolous species in ±shaded habitats in subtropical and temperate rainforest and wet-sclerophyll forest in eastern Qld, N.S.W., Vic. and Tas.; also in Papua New Guinea.
